Cities are responsible for three-quarters of the world’s energy consumption. This energy is mostly derived from fossil fuels and significantly contributes to the greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change. This session looks at the challenges of changing paradigm or how we should view the cities of tomorrow

More than half the world’s population are living in urban areas. With increasing urbanization, cities today face challenges very different from those of the past. This session shares the experience of experts in tackling urban challenges as cities around the world compete to attract economic growth. Well balance of three dimensions that constitutes an 'urban environment' namely natural environment, built environments and socio-economic environments to be fully understood in the development of coherent and sustainable policies. Climate change crisis is a treat as well as the challenges and opportunities ahead for urban development in terms of human resources, renewable energy, land and water to sustainable development of the city

“The Energy Revolution”

 

The start of the new world energy order is evidenced by continued high prices of energy. It is essential to update energy infrastructure that can integrate ‘renewable’ energy sources – such as biofuels, wind, wave or tidal, and solar power – that do not add to global warming. This session will also share collaboration between the public and private sectors for energy revolution to cope up with climate change.

“Urban Transportation, Clean Fuels, Green Environment”

 

Traffic problem in urban area especially in developing countries tremendously affect people’s well being, causing both physical and mental stress. Environmental impacts from urban traffic are significant with GHG emissions. This panel will share experience and step forward to increase the efficiency of traffic system, mass transit and road network including the use of clean fuels to reduce GHG emissions. Funding opportunity and CDM scheme will also bring to participant’s attention.
